THE Mountain

There’s something about a mountain - something magical and powerful.
Beautiful. Moving.

She stands above everything else. Not just everything else here, but everything else on the entire planet. Above the tree tops, above the birds and even above the clouds. She appears grand and gentle, disguising her true nature, rugged and hostile. Snow capped peaks, like the icing on the globe. Dangerously tasty. Dangerously tempting.

When conquered, this mountain can provide a rush like no other. When only attempted, this mountain can provide a heart-wrenching like nothing else. This mountain is always there beckoning you forward. What seems within an arms reach can turn out to be so many, many painful steps away. Even up here, deprived of oxygen, tired and sore, there is no one who cannot wow at its beauty.

Created by the forces of the Earth, and sculpted by time, I feel honored to be in her presence.

She changes the weather, she changes the season and she changes minds. She is wondrous and peaceful, then without warning she is violent and frightening. She is one of Mother Nature’s true wonders.

She will remain one of the most moving sights I have ever seen.
